Maia S. Deubert, Psy.D.

Dr. Maia Deubert is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been in private practice in Northern Virginia since 2005. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1996, and her doctorate from the George Washington University in 2003. In her practice, Dr. Deubert conducts psychotherapy and assessment with children, adolescents, and adults. Depending on the presenting problem, she incorporates both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral techniques (CBT) into her work. This range of therapeutic approaches provides both the necessary tools for more immediate symptom relief, while also helping the person to gain a deeper awareness of the underlying causes for the unwanted symptoms or behaviors that have brought them to therapy. Dr. Deubert’s therapeutic style is warm and empathic, yet focused. She strongly believes in routine collaboration with other professionals involved in the care of her patients (e.g., psychiatrists, school counselors, teachers, pediatricians or general practitioners). When working with children, Dr. Deubert encourages regular parent meetings to review progress and treatment planning, and to discuss how parents can support the skills being developed in the home environment. When working with adolescents, Dr. Deubert incorporates feedback from the parents, while at the time provides a safe and private space for the teenager or young adult to work on the many challenges faced during this developmental phase of life.

Evaluations/Testing Services

In addition to therapy services, Dr. Deubert also conducts psychological, psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and admissions (private school) testing. She strives to provide the individual or family with a comprehensive evaluation that will assist them with academic, therapeutic, and life planning. Dr. Deubert places a large emphasis on generating helpful and detailed recommendations in her reports so that the individual or family feels equipped to address the weaknesses uncovered through the testing process. These recommendations are oftentimes essential when seeking accommodations and support in the academic or occupational setting (e.g., IEP or 504 plans). Dr. Deubert assesses the following areas:

  • IQ/cognitive functioning
  • Achievement/academic functioning
  • Memory
  • Attention and concentration
  • Executive functioning
  • Social-emotional functioning
  • Adaptive functioning
