Megan F. Gerbracht, Psy.D.,LLC

Dr. Megan Gerbracht is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who sees children, adolescents and adults in her private practice. She provides consultation, evaluation, and psychotherapy to individuals with a wide range of needs. Dr. Gerbracht is a graduate of The George Washington University, and has been in private practice since 2005. She has background and training in psychodynamic psychotherapy while also integrating elements of cognitive-behavioral and developmental psychology practices. Her work with clients addresses obtaining symptom relief while working to achieve insight and understanding of oneself that leads to lasting change. To facilitate this work with younger children, Dr. Gerbracht uses play therapy when conversation is not yet possible or comfortable. Dr. Gerbracht also meets regularly with parents to discuss their child's progress and offer guidance and support. She has a particular interest in working with young children who are experiencing developmental delays. Believing strongly in the benefits of early intervention, Dr. Gerbracht begins working with children as young as 2 years of age. She uses a relationship-based model of therapy, often including parents as a central part of these play therapy treatments.

Comprehensive treatment for children with Developmental Disorders

Families of children who have developmental delays have unique needs. As early intervention has become more readily available, parents now find themselves with a wide array of choices about the treatment options available. Very often, a combination of complementary therapies is the most effective treatment. Some families are already connected with speech therapists, occupational therapists, social skills groups, etc. Others come looking for guidance in the process of deciding what avenues to explore. Dr. Gerbracht enjoys working closely with these parents, no matter where they are in this process. She helps families address the challenges of managing the logistics of various therapies as well as integrating the feedback, practical application, and progress of each. Dr. Gerbracht strives to support and assist parents in their role of case managers for their children's treatment. She serves to facilitate regular communication among therapists, teachers, medical professionals, and caregivers and she participates in Individualized Education Plans(IEPs) when applicable. In order to achieve this level of care, Dr. Gerbracht encourages participation in regular parent guidance sessions. This time is set aside to discuss progress and challenges, planning for the future, and the unique family dynamics that stem from caring for a child with developmental delays.
